For instance... I accuired a Phillips 4400 from my brother in law with crappy software. I also have a HP CD Writer Plus at another location with Adaptec Software. Can I use the Adaptec software with my Phillips CDR?

It might or it might not work. I used to have an HP 8100i drive, and I recently upgraded to a Creative 8432 which is faster. I left Adaptec installed (4.02), and it will not recognize the drive. I have to use the "Nero Burning Rom" software that it came with.

Nero Burning Rom

Nero is God's gift to cd-burning.

I use Adaptec EZ-CD Creator 4 Deluxe, Nero, and CDRWIN - all installed at the same time without problems.

Adaptec Easy-CD Creator is by far the best! Make sure you get the full version, and not the scaled-down version they give you for free with some CD-R drives.

Nero is waaaaay better than Easy-CD Creator. They have constant upgrades and support many features that adaptec still doesn't have.

Out of curiosity, what features has Nero got that Adaptec hasn't?

Ah. My CDRW doesn't support that, I think (Yamaha 4416). Also never needed/wanted CloneCD. Oh well, guess I'll stick with Adaptec for now.
