PS3 very grainy when playing normal DVDs

I've gone through a bunch of settings and can't seem to shake a very grainy effect the PS3 puts on normal def DVDs. They looked better on the old 27" CRT, so I'm a little disappointed at seeing so many fuzzy artifacts in the picture. (It looks like a poorly ripped DVD.)

(HDMI 1.3a capable cable is connecting the 1080p TV to the PS3.)

Does anyone have any suggestions? This is ruining my movie night.

Edit: oh, and the TV is detecting a 480p signal.

I would say it's my vision having trouble going back from blu-ray to standard def dvds, but I don't even have any blu-ray movies yet.

Anyone have any sugestions for what's going on?

Huh, you might have to play around with your PS3 video settings (far left and then down a bunch in the x-bar). Also, in the triangle menu of a DVD one of the options is AV Options. You can go in there and mess around with how it scales and handles artifacts. I think DVD playback on the PS3 is great.

you must have a setting screwed up somewhere, either on the PS3 or the TV.

Hard to think something's screwed up, nothing was really tweaked. I'll play around some more and let you guys know what I find.
