months of internet cable grief

i think i found the problem myself tonight .bad cables in the house .tomorrow they are do here (comcast). i lost all signal tonight for the net . i go downstairs and replaced one lead and presto its working . i did have to use to shorty's and 2 barrow connectors but im alive.
tomorrow they are to replace my old toshiba modem .and im going to also get them to re cable my whole dam house . i know i may have to call a manager to get this approved but im tired of dicking with these guys at comcast .

Don't you foot the bill for the cable inside your house? I thought they were only liable to run it the box and from there on it was on you.

well they are saying its my equipment thats messed up and not theres .im getting my routers screwed up or my computers screwing up the works . well i just swap my rig out withs the wifes. now i have her machine as my main and only rig online. we see if i drop service .i also have the router out of the loop for now. if its the computer it be a Dell replacement unit in my home .i really dont need a power house any more. so i wont be building me a new custom rig.just not gaming like i use to and a store shelf new rigs will work for everything i do now. wouldn't suprize me if the MB is shorted on it .

hm, well that's funny (as in odd).

you should be able to check your modem levels at 192.168.100.1. depending on the modem, it could be in one of those screens.

also, if your router is screwy you could try doing a factory reset on it. there should be a button (recessed or otherwise) on the back somewhere. copy down your configuration first...anything that's forwarded, your security settings, etc, and then reset it. set it up for basic security (WPA or WEP) and see how it connects from there. just powercycle the modem before doing this...making sure that you powercycle the modem and then plug in the router (to make sure that the modem has an IP and is ready to lease on before turning on the router).

i'd start there before buying new equipment or trashing anything.
