Can I remove old .NET on my comp?

Anyone with thoughts on whether it is safe to delete old version of .net framework sitting on my computer? Looking at the programs I have 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5. I guess mistakenly I figured MSFT would take out the old when installing the new, but I now realize how stupid a thought that was.

I think that you may need to keep them there. I once DLed a program that require .NET x.0. I went to the Microsoft site to download it, and found "hey, there is a .NET x.5 here, I'll go ahead and get that, since it is the latest". I then tried to run the original program, and it still complained that it needed .NET x.0. I downloaded and installed that older version, and all was well. Both versions remained on my system.

It depends. Do you have any programs that need the old framework? If you answer yes or I don't know, you should keep the old ones.

Thanks, that's what I figured. I had hoped to free up some hard drive space, but I'll look for other options.

I have v1.0, v1.1, v2.0, v3.0, and v3.5, and all of those versions take up about 300 megs. not a huge amount of space. look elsewhere.

Have you defragmented your computer? That would help free space without getting rid of anything.

There are some freeware window cleaners that clean your registry.
