My computer seems to freeze up when I play most movies other then mpeg since I have a decoder card for it. Whenever I play some divx movies or any such after a short while my computer will lock up.
The specs of my computer are AMD 950 tb socketa Memory 512 mb 32x64 or something that sort pc133 Abit kt7-raid Leadtek geforce 2 mx dual head Adaptec 29160N scsi controller Sigma Designs dvd decoder Creative live value intel nic 100 yamaha scsi cd-rw 8x8x toshiba 12x scsi dvd-rom one ultra 160 western digital HD 2 60 giger 5400 rpm udma 66 maxtor hd's one 10 giger 5400 rpm udma one 6 giger 5400 rpm udma 2 12.6 giger 5400 rpm udma 66 raided together I seem to be having problems transfering from the 2 60 gigers transfering to the 2 12.6 gigers raided together. I'm not certain if this is the problem or not and don't understand why that problem occurs. all 4 of these devices are on the abit kt7-raid raid port the udma 100 slots. My OS is win2k server, pro, and ME all seems to have the same problems. I have made sure all my drivers are up to date and still the problem exists. My WIN2k Server settings are In system Properties Performance optimized for applications virtual memory total paging file size for all drives 255 mb - 700 mb partitioned from the scsi 18 g hd My temporary internet directory in my k: drive partition from the raided drive for 800 mb My computer doesn't freeze unless I play some movies or the computer has been on 2 long or something along those lines. I tried theplaya and windows media player which both seem to crash my computer the only one taht hasn't is real hollywood pluses dvd player which I use to watch mpegs. I hope someone can help me out this has been bothering me for awhile and I wish to fix this problem THANKS in advance for all those that can help if their is any info that you would need that would help you out in helping me debug my problem feel free ask. it's been a while, but I'm pretty sure the culprit is the Maxtor's in Raid configuration. When that MB came out my friend and I built him a new computer and had similar problems. We read that the Maxtor's wouldn't work with the MB so we exchanged them for IBM's, same problem. Ended up not running them in raid and everything is good, especially after we dumped the SBLive!.
There may be patches out now, but he was so fed up with it he decided to let it go. Good luck. |
