I can't figure out what's causing this, but my computer stalls a lot. Like, whenever i change a webpage, it stalls, and winamp starts to skip. I can't figure out what's causing it, any ideas?

I would say the processor is bogging. Might be overheating.

Could also be that you don't have your Virtual memory set right, or it is on a partition that is fast running out of room.

If you only have 1 partition, then 3 gigs really isn't enough. You are slowing down the system that way, and after awhile, especially with the way winamp can leak memory all over the place, the virtual memory struggles.

I'm having the same problem! I've sent computers back to the IT guys three times, and each time it comes back worse...you'd think they'd give me an explanation or try and fix it or something, just to get me off their backs.

I doubt it's overheating on my part, as they're pretty new boxes, no dust, etc. I have 13 GB between across one partition. Is that still not enough? I'm running winamp, IE, NLNotes (blech!), excel/access/word and Trillian.

PIII-800
512 MB RAM
NT 4.0
Generic CD-ROM
Floppy
unknown video/sound cards
microsoft wheel optical attached to ps/2

Help, because you all know how totally useless my IT department is. How would I change or dicker with my vmem settings?
