OK . . . well here's the deal . . . whenever I startup or shut down my computer, I get this lovely picture of a woman in a very pornographic pose pop up just before my computer finishes starting up or shutting down. It has not become my wallpaper since when I start up, it always reverts back to my normal wallpaper after a second . . . so I have no clue how to get rid of it. I've got no idea how it got there. Of course, at first I figured it was a friend's prank, but none will fess up to it . . . so then I ran a virus scan and nothing is showing up. Any ideas? Thanks.

does it replace the normal windows start up screens? If so, then you need to delete the logo.sys, logo.ini, and ...uh, another one. Don't worry, windows will then default to the correct ones.
If it is popping up between the windows logo and the desktop wallpaper, check the startup folder, or go to start->run->msconfig and look to see what's launching in the task tray that you don't want.

i have another suggestion. if your wallpaper (the one you put on, not the nudie one) isn't a .bmp, windows will switch to using active desktop. active desktop kicks in after windows loads, and unloads before it's finished shutting down. so, if there's a regular wallper on there as a .bmp, it'll showup before active desktop comes on and then after it's off.
go into your display properties. select the Web tab. deselect "Show web content on my active desktop." Apply. Now, go to the Background tab. Under wallpaper, select None. Apply again. Viola, that should get rid of the offending pic. Though for the life of me, I can't figure out why you would want to get rid of it! If it doesn't, then its using more nefarious means of getting itself there and I'm outta suggestions.

Thanks folks
Thanks much folks! The offending material has now been removed! Ironchef, you were right . . . I have active desktop enabled, and when that was shutting off, the nudie pic was showing up (It had been set as my IE wallpaper). I found this when following LPMs suggestion, I ran the MS Config and saw on the Desktop tab that my Hendrix pic wasn't the one mentioned.
Thanks again guys . . .LPM, you are almost forgiven for all the French remarks (I'm half French). |
