Any know how to get rid of the "ghost shadows" on your monitor? in Win98se, with no background on the desktop, it is really apparent and bugging the hell out of me. also, there are faint "ripples" on the screen, the kind that looks like its caused by EMI, but i know its not that since i moved my speakers around with no avail. i just popped in a GeForce2 mx, w/ the most current driver, which i cant remember the version# (i'm at work), and the monitor is a Viewsonic PS790.

come to think of it, no, but i do have a ceiling fan in the room that is remote-activated... i think its kinda odd that a *fan* would cause enough EMI to jack up your monitor though

I *think* what you may be seeing is the monitor refreshing itself. No everyone can see that, but I can and it bugs the crap out of me. Your refresh rate is probably set too low - 60Hz or so. You'll want to bump that up to a higher rate - 75Hz or higher and you won't notice the flicker anymore. Most modern monitors will support refresh rates of 75-85Hz or higher.
You can reset this at Control Panel.. Display.. Settings.. Advanced.. then either the 'adapter' or the 'monitor' tab, I forget which on 98, but it's the 'monitor/ tab on W2K. |

the screen is not really flickering, but its more like I'm seeing double, and the double image is really faint, but you can still see it (how annoying!
 ) the GeForce 2mx has twin view, i wonder if that has anything to do with it. I know for sure that it is disabled, but, i dunno... |

Nah, I thought that's what DFU was originally complaining about.
I have seen fans and radios causing a lot of monitor noise, but they usually have to be pretty close, say within a foot or two of the monitor. Another thing to check is if the fan is plugged into the same circuit as the PC - I've seen interference that way as well. |

I have seen that effect before on a monitor that was against a wall with a power conduit behind it. It doesn't take much to throw it off. Try moving your monitor away from the wall or placing some shielding behind it.
Basicaly, consider what might be running behind the wall, and whar might be behind it. |

my nvidia driver is 12.41. is that the latest driver out there? i cant find any other newer driver for win98

phones.
how about phones, cordless i mean. i had a 2.4ghz range phone that sorta did flicker my screen a little and that was a while back. Maybe u live near a highway with all those big trucks using those all powerful radios or something. I have a speaker that picks up radio stations but not really bother my computer.

could be the power. does your house tend to brown-out a lot? i know monitors require a constant applied voltage, and if it fluctuates around threshold, the screen would start to act funny. i dunno, just throwing ideas out there.
btw, i still havent found the sol'n to my prob yet either  |

DF, try swapping with another monitor and see if that's the problem.
