First off, a window to my System32 folder opens up whenever I log in to my profile. Second, the system sounds are all messed up. For example, if I empty the recycle bin, the usual .wav doesn't play, but my system speaker beeps. Same thing with email notification. I've tried restoring the defaults in the Sound and Multimedia tab in Control Panel, but no dice.
FYI: Windows 2000 Pro, if you need more info ask.

check your autorun keys, mainly:
HKey/LM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run HKey/LM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Load I would bet that there is a reference to the folder on one of those. For the sounds, try installing a new scheme, does it work? Can you hear any sounds? Can you play wavs through the system? |

Thanks for replying but there's no value for /Run and the /Load key doesn't even exist.
I have tried different profiles and I can preview the .wav files so I'm gonna assume that the system can play files. I'm thinking it's time for a fresh re-install anyways, but I can't reinstall MS Office 2000 because of the install twice policy. |

This just got mentioned in another thread. Try using Startup Cop, which is a freeby you can download from http://www.hotfiles.com - just enter "Startup Cop" in the search window. It should show you everything that gets launched when Windows starts and let you disable (and delete) what you don't want.

I shoulda mentioned that the System32 problem has been fixed. However I need to figure out why the heck my sound has been messed up. Other than that my system seems to be fine. It's not as if the sound card is all messed up, or the IRQs are jacked up either. As I type, I'm listening to songs via Winamp.
![]() Also one other problem is that my view settings keep getting reset. I've set my preference, yet once in a while (i.e. often) the view returns to big icons. Last edited by speedracer120 : 08-30-2001 at 11:58 PM. |
