I've finally reformatted my system, switched from Win2k-AdvServer to WinXP-Pro. As expected, I've run into a flurry of problems with drivers, hardware conflicts, etc.

The specs of my system are listed below. I was trying to update all my drivers. When installing my SB Audigy Platinum eX, it never installed fully from the installation CD. Several messages would pop up saying it won't install USB or something of that nature, because it hasn't been Microsoft certified. After SB set most everything up, rebooted, but I can't update the drivers because the system says that the installation is incomplete. I've done this a few times already to make sure I didn't do anything wrong, but no luck. Upon bootup now, it pops up an error message saying the soudn card was not installed properly. Any pointers?

My Radeon 8500DV AIW is having problems. I've updated the drivers from ATI's website. I've seen the blue screen of death twice, in which the system just totally reboot itself before I could get a full glimpse of what the message said. I've had like 3-4 error messages saying windows crashed due to an error with my Radeon card. I attempted to go to www.windowsupdate.com and update the driver, but it wouldn't install!


So far, I like XP. Its the fastest bootup I've ever seen. It'll take a lil gettin used to. Now if only I can get everything to work properly! Please just don't tell me I'm FUBAR'd.

You may have some driver conflicts. Hopefully you imaged your drive when it was a fresh install, if not you can use the GoBack feature in XP and restore a good working copy of your system then install the new drivers.

My experience with ATI is that you have to install the drivers that came with it, then each update in succession if you skip one your system may hiccup with blue screens. I know it sucks,but it is the safest way. SB also had some problems with drivers for XP, but should all be corrected now. If you are able to download the all current drivers and burn them to a CD. If your drivers won't install in the control panel update driver. You can try to remove the SB card from remove hardware, power down, remove card and reboot and then power down. Reinsert the card and when it prompts you for drivers you have em on your CD.

Another and final option would be to ghost or image your current system then do a fresh install of WinXP Pro.

I've tried what you just said. I removed the card, removed all the drivers and other lines pertaining to the Audigy card. XP didn't pop up any add/remove hardware wizard. When I tried updating using the driver from the website, it said the following:

"This web update requires you to pre-install the Sound Blaster Audigy from the original Installation Disc that is bundled with your product. Install this update only after you had done so. Update will exit now"

And I double checked to make sure the card is plugged in firmly.

That is a common thing.

With XP go into the control panel, system, and click the hardware tab.

In the middle of the screen is a button for Driver Signing Options. What the default is set to is Warn. Click Ignore if you do not want it to warn you.

When it does warn you, you have an option to install anyway. It would be up to you if you want to ignore or click on the warning box to install anyway

Thanks for the tip, at least now I can get rid of those warnings. I've tried both ways, ignoring, and also installing. Both don't seem to get my system up and running. I'm doomed, DOOMED i tell ya!
