my windows is messed up!!!

guess its my lucky day.

ok, now for my comp, i started modding my desktop after reading a coupla threads on it awhile back. i installed ThemeXP, etc... after playing a round of Day of Defeat and exiting out, comp crashes.

ok, harmless crash thinks I. I thought wrong.

after rebooting, the taskbar on the bottom doesnt show up correctly. it keeps on showing the windows default style, rather than my "modded" style, but the rest of windows is "modded" Ok, so I go try to reapply the theme. I do it through Desktop Properties - Themes. I select the theme, hit apply, boom, comp crashes again.

Reboot again. Now everything that is Windows Interface related is totally blacked out! Start menu, task bar, scrollers, etc...

Any suggestions in what i do??? I need to somehow switch back to windows default settings, but I cant access it, because all the windows elements are totally blacked out!!!

help, pleeze!

what version of windows are you running?

have you tried going into safemode?

have you tried sticking in your windows cd and boot it up? i believe on the windows setup, it can repair windows. i'm not sure which versions have that feature, but i know some do.

fixed the problem by just trashing my user account, and creating new one. Yes, its a pain the arse, losing all my emails and what not, but I was able to recover all my documents, etc.. (even when it was all set as private. That was a biotch!)

i think the problem comes from the StyleXP program. It just doesnt want to work anymore. Is there some sort of "timeout" thing on the shareware version?

i set up 2 user accounts, my main one being normal theme, and a test account where everything is modded. I reinstalled StyleXP and the modded account looks great. However, a week later, the modded taskbar won't show anymore, only the 'regular.'

Hmm...
