i have a computer running windows2000 and a separate one running windows98. they are both networked through a router and have files shared. from the comp with win98, i can access files on the one with win2000, but from win2000, i cant access any files on the other. any help on what to do would be appreciated

well it looks like you have the sharing correct on the 2K pc, on the 98 PC right click what you want to share and click sharing and enable it. That should do ya

If you are just wanting to share without a password, on the 2k machine go to the users and make sure guest is enabled and not disabled. That should do it.

Thats not what I was talking about, you need to make sure the guest account is enabled, by default its disabled for security reasons. The easiest way to check for this is to get to the computer management window. Then under "Local Users and Groups" expand to "users." You should see guest and most likely it'll have a red x on it since you are having problems. Right click on it, then hit properties. Uncheck account is disabled, and that should do it.

Are you running a software firewall on the 98 machine? That will block all incoming connections unless you specifically allow the traffic.
If not, another thing you can try is to turn on the netBEUI protocol on both machines. That's much easier than IP for a small network. |
