scanner and XP question

I have a coupla year old umax 1220U scanner, that I tried to get working with my new computer that has XP. Went to the umax website but it said that they didn't have any drivers for XP and it is incompatible with that scanner model.

Am I SOL and have to go buy a new scanner or is there anything I can do?

All UMAX parallel port scanners (i.e., Astra 300P, 600P, 610P, 1210P, 1220P, and 2000P) are not supported under XP.

Looks like you are SOL. Of course, if you have been hanging out in the deals forums over the past few months, you would have a number of "backup" scanners sitting in your closet.

* sigh * yeah that's what I thought. I did see all those scanner deals but I didn't need one them at the time!

try a google search for your scanner's drivers for XP. i've seen all sorts of semi-hack drivers and some good ones floating around on the net written by individuals. they might not be official but hey, they might work!

this might be of use. i bet umax stopped supporting XP and pulled the drivers because of this:

You can try a Win2K driver in XP without fear of damage - just set a restore point before you install it. If it doesn't work, you'll know immediately, so just go back to that restore point and you'll be fine.
