Motherboard resets itself to 100/100mhz sporadically
Sometimes when I boot up the computer, the my ECS K7S5A makes 2 or 3 quick beeps in succession and freezes. It gives me an option to either run CMOS setup or resume boot. Whenever this happens, it resets itself to 100/100 fsb. Cpu is a non-oced amd 1.33 tbird.
Also, about once every 10 I turn on my computer, the thing will start running (fans begin turning, hd spins, etc.) but nothing shows up on my monitor. The monitor just remains in standby mode. When I hit the hard reset button on the case, it'll bootup like normal. How do I fix these thingies? ![]() |

Not sure you can, depends on the problem. I'd try flashing the bios, because it almost sounds like you have a bad image in the rom. But it could be flakey memory too.

Could also be bad power - are you plugged into a UPS? That sometimes helps if the power in your house is bad. Could also be a flaky PS, tho... got|voltmeter?

I've never flashed my bios before, and when I went to the ECS website, it says this: Quote:
Is it really that dangerous? |

If a bios goes wrong your motherboard may be rendered inoperable.
