Angry help with cdrom pls

hello, i was using my hp cdwriter/dvd combo 9900 series for a year and then it suddenly wont burn any cd using recordnow, so i installed nero then cdrwin then clonecd with no luck. i uninstalled these softwares one by one, then all of a sudden after a reboot, my cd is not being recognized by windows xp sp1 anymore. i tried removing the cd in device manager but when xp detects the cd during refresh it says it cannot install the cdrom because of a corrupt or missing driver. any help will be appreciated. i think the cdrom uses the winxp cdrom driver. thanks in advance

Have you tried booting without the CD-RW/DVD drive plugged in?

1. Unplug it
2. Boot up your comp.
3. shut down.
4. Plug it back in.
5. Boot up your comp again and see if it will detect.

I did this with a few months ago and it is fine now.

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

if you really wanna get it out of your system...

after unplugging it...boot up in safe mode... then go to device manager and remove it.

then plug it back in...and have it recognize again.

i tried both of your suggestions with no luck. xp detects the cdrom but "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". do you think its one of the programs that i installed then uninstalled that screwed my xp. i borrowed my brothers cdrom and its the same, detects the cdrom but cannot load the driver. thanks again

try it in another system and see if it is the drive or a software problem
