Router Problem?

Hi guys
i have 2 pcs on a router
1 pc is usually downloading around 100k

other pc i wanna download stuff it works for while like 50kish
then goes to 0 in like minute...

this is a Linksys router Wireless Cable/dsl one ...

Both are on ethernet not wireless yet..
its not the download source because ive tried many places...

the pc having the problem is on DMZ host too..so it has the ports open
Anyone know what i should do>?? the problem?

It most likely has nothing to do with the router..

It is probably more basic things like bad cable (causing lots of errors and retransmits), buggy drivers, bad NIC, etc.. The dropping to zero makes me think there's a lot of errors on the line causing the TCP connection to drop.

You should check TCP settings like MTU, etc. Use DSLReports.com and run through some of their tests. At the end they make some suggestion for what your tcp settings should be. They also have a program in the tools section call drtcp (something like that anyways) that will allow you to change the settings without going into the registry. Most likely these things won't fix the problem, but you never know. If these settings are way off they can cause some serioud problems.

I'd do the same tests on the other machine.. you might find out that both of them can get a lot better download speed.

First thing you should do... Swap the network cables between the two machines and test again. If the problem reverses itself, you need a new cable. If not, I'd blame the nic of the slow machine. Either update your drivers or get a new nic.
