Clean install of Windows XP Pro on a Sony VAIO GRV670 Laptop okay?
Yup, I got in on the deal a few days ago and it's sitting in my room right now.
This laptop came with XP Home and I want to put in XP Pro. One of my buddies told me he heard that Sony Vaio's aren't good with clean installs. Is this true?

The problem with reformatting a factory made computer is that you lose the software that came with it. And when I say software, I am not just talking about the programs, but the actual drivers that run the devices. Although XP pro will most likely find all the devices, there will probably be at least 3-4 it will not find. Updating XP will help some (if you have a legit CD Key). Also before you reformat go to VAIO's website and see if they have the drivers package that is for your laptop. Also some companies give disk that have all the drivers on them. As for will XP run on your laptop hardware, it should or you need to raise hell if it doesn’t.

yeah I'd definitely check with sony and ask them for a driver disc specific for you laptop model. Dell is good about doing this and so is IBM
