modem wont insall undr winxp

My friends has a problem with installing a 56k modem in his computer. The specs of the computer is, Asus A78v deluxe, 2 stick crucial pc2700 256. winxp with latest patches. everytime he tries to install drivers for the modem, i gives him a invalid data msg. we tried serveral modems already. anyone got any clue?

Have you checked the compatibility pages @ microsoft to make sure that brand works?

I believe this is natures way of telling you it's time to evolve to broadband..
