my dimension 4400 needs a new mobo.
My dells motherboard died on me...one month after my warranty is over.
Their price for a replacement is $139.... Can I just get a regular motherboard and drop it in there? It's a P4 2.4, and i'd like to spend as little as possible. Doesn't need to have anything built in, but I need an AGP slot, and would like it to fit the dell chasis correctly. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance. |

Dell cases are smaller than what most regular MBs are. A regular MB had 5 or 5 pci slots and an agp slot. There are micro atx MBs with only 1 agp and 3 pci slots, but I don't know if the screw holes would match up with the case. You probably won't find a MB that will take a P4 2.4for much less than $139 though.

I'm not too familiar with the newer generation of dells. I'm going to assume though you won't be able to just throw in anything since the powersupply they use is some custom thing. I'd recommend checking out ebay for a replacement. Might be able to find someone scrapping a 4400.
