Thumbs down GAIN's Precision Time/Date Manager

Stupid GAIN pop-up comes up to download Precision Time and Date Manager always installs itself on my computer when I'm browsing web sites. Is there something I can set on my browser so it won't allow programs to download without my approval?

using IE 6

Tools | Internet Options | Advanced Tab | put a check next to 'Install On Demand (Other)'

that should do it. I would also recommend uninstall all Gator software with Spybot, and Ad-Adware. Try not to visit sites that prompt you for GAIN-related downloads, because they are obviously in league with the baddies.

I had a lot of trouble getting rid of those guys. Tried uninstalling, deleting individual files, kept coming back. Like Nija says, get some spyware to clean it up. Ad-aware did it for me and I have since added Spybot too.

Thanks! I'll try the IE options.

I do have Ad-ware on my computer but it doesn't seem to prevent the download. It will delete it once I run the Ad-ware search and destroy but it doesn't prevent it from being downloaded off the bat.

That's another thing I love about Netscape/Mozilla (and another reason why I use them instead of IE)...

Those apps don't work in them (Netscape/Mozilla) so they don't pop up and ask me to download them 'cause I'm not usin' IE.
