Machine gone crazy...
I've got a user who is having some FUN computer problems on a Win2K machine.
Here's the symptoms: Every time they click on the taskbar, it closes within a few milliseconds. If you try to open something on the desktop, it'll tell you access to the specific device is not allowed or access denied. The machine will kill any window you try to open through alternate means, alternate clicks, windows key + e, the task manager, etc. If I disable the keyboard and mouse via remote control software, I can move around check the taskmanager, but cannot kill most processes that are running. (One's that I've never heard of). It just tells me access denied. I can't run anything out of the start menu>programs listing, but I can browse to it through the run command and execute it that way. I've run both Ad-aware and spybot and did remove some spyware. This is the only computer on their local workgroup that is having this problem. We've replaced the keyboard with no avail. Anyone got any ideas on things I can check for?

VIRUS!!
Get yourself a preboot virus scanner (so you can check the boot partition) and let me know which nasty bugger you got. I'd also pull the network cable off of it for now to keep it from spreading (if it hasn't already). Quote:

I ran Trend Micro's system cleaner with the most up to date pattern file. (It didn't find anything.)
Is there a better tool that I can use? Edit: one more thing. The hard drive is showing 30 gigs of free space and only 7 used. So if it is a virus, it's not mass copying itself. Got any idea which one this could be? Last edited by gwilks98 : 06-22-2003 at 10:38 AM. |
