water on hard disk?

My basement flooded last weekend and my HD got wet (probably overnight)....I tested it last night and my bios could not recognize it....you think I need to get a new one? or totally have it dry out (i did notice some dampness on the sides)...

ps. It was on the basement floor bec. I had to send my mobo for repairs and dissambled everything - the floor was the easiest place to put it.......that's why it got wet...

I suggest you go with a new harddrive. I doubt you can get a wet harddrive to work again.

with most hardware if it gets wet while running it may be shot, if its not in use (powered down/ not hooked up) it may be alright after it has time to dry.

well if there is anything important on the drive let it dry out real good. stand the drive on it's side anter it drys good if ther is data that needs salvaged put it in another pc that works set it is a slave drive.

install "PC Inspector File Recovery" from Download.com and see if you can recover any of your data even if the drive will not boot PC Inspector File Recovery can sometime recover the data i have used it several times. My boss thinks i am a computer god because of this program.

anyways after recovering your dada never use thatdrive again it is probably very unstable.

hope that helps

Thanks for the reply guys.

I was able to reload my slave (data) drive with Windows and it worked....all my data was intact...phew....

My original boot drive was not able to boot...so what I did was remove the board from the drive and saw the foam that was between the board and HD was soaked!...so I decided to let it dry for awhile...

the funny thing was after I reloaded my slave (data) drive...I took it apart and it was wet too.....

I let both dry out for today.....

Hopefully BOTH drives will be okay......

Thanks again guys!
