RD Ram vs DDR
Hey all, Im not having a hardware problem persay, but rather I have a question about hardware. Right now, I have 256mb of PC800 RDRAM. An upgrade will set me back about $180. Thus, I was pondering the notion of getting a new mobo, one that supports DDR and getting a 6gigs of DDR for like 25cents or whatever its running these days. ;] Could I get some expert, yet avoid the not so expert, advice. ;] Thanks!

so whats your question? Getting help with a new mobo or questions about ram. If its about ram than I would say go with DDR.

The ASUS A7N8X claims a 3 gig capacity, but I doubt you might need six with dual DDR. How about a dual processor mobo?

yeah, i'm running it with ~1.25GB and it's sooo sweet i've got slots 1 & 3 w/512MB (Kingston and Corsair) Slot 2 with 256MB (Crucial) took a little navigating, but it's smooth now. Of course a OS that didn't like to crash within a week is the next thing I'm looking for (sorry had to get the windows jab in) |

lol, sorry for the confusion. I was joking about the 6 gigs of DDR for 25cents. (It was supposed to be a joke, poking fun at how incredibly expensive RDRam is.) Anyway, I just wanted to know which would would be the smarter/better/& cheaper way to go? Get a new mobo and new RAM, or just upgrade what I have?
And if its going with a new mobo and ram, how much will it cost me? (what should I get) I have a P4 2.3ghz (from Dell). If I need to post more info, just tell me what I need to post. Thanks! |

first problem, you have a dell. . If you build your computer, it's going to more expensive than your dell, but more than likely it's also going to preform/look better. I know when I built my computer (less than 5 months ago) it took me a while, because I didn't want to spend more $100 on each individual piece [yes i broke it on the Vidcard and mobo but nowhere else)Do what is right for your budget vs. what you want of course if you can find a happy medium, then more power to ya ![]() |
