Super Slow

I was reading my mobo manual Asus A7N8X and it said that the dual DDR worked best in slots 1/3 or 2/3. Mine were in 1/2 so I thought I would try it. Comp didn't like the change- wouldn't boot. Put things back and after disabling my Roxio GoBack, finally got it working. Except now things load sooo slooowwly! What loaded in les than a second can now take a full minute or more. Even apps like Explorer. The voice post on boot says system normal. Once open, things seem to operate at fairly normal speed. Using Windows XP. Any ideas what problem might be? I guess I violated the old addage- If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I recently updated drivers for my video card was the only other change. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance! Once loaded I was able to play Splinter Cell OK. Saves were slow.

That's good to hear. Occasionally ram is picky like that and has little hissy fits where it doesn't want to run properly. Possibly it was overheating for some reason, my ram does this sometimes. It took me a month of breaking in my memory before it let me go to 166mhz @CAS 2 settings, it used to go real slow like you described, then I also turned it off one night, then the next day it worked great.
