Computer with 56K modem for voice/fax
My uncle has been trying to setup his computer to use 1 telephone line to receive both fax and voice phone calls. However, he has run into some problems and the fax will pick up any call after 1 ring. I have pasted his email to me below. Any of you have any suggestions?
As for my computer woes, they can be best described by what I hope to achieve. My aim is to be able to send and receive voice and fax messages via a single telephone line through the computer which is hooked up to a copier/printer/scanner. After encountering incompatibility issues involving Windows XP, modem, and communication software, I am presently in a situation that appears capable of satisfying my needs except for annoyances of unknown origin. My current configuration consists of Windows XP, Fax Talk Message Pro, Conexant HSF V92 56K RTAD Speakerphone modem, and HP Officejet Pro 1150C. Some of the consistently annoying things include 1. Even though the telephone-answering program is set to pick up, say after 4 rings, it has a tendency to pick up any time up to 4, most frequently after just 1. 2. When I try to dial up my ISP, as often as not I would get a message in my dial up program saying "Redial in 5 sec." that recycles indefinitely unless I reboot. Partly through the reboot, the dialing process engages while the computer shuts down. 3. I have the impression that the dial-up process usually fails on the first try even if the above-cited "Redial ..." issue does not occur. In other words, I usually connect on the first try when not confi- gured in the way. |
