FTP sites
I've never encountered this before so its bugging the hell outta me. I just got this computer at work using winxp pro and i just want to get on a FTP site using IE. It always tells me that it 'cannot be found' and when refreshing, it says that a connection cannot be made, but all the other computers in the office can get to the ftp site, so it has to be my computer. Any ideas? Thanks!

in IE go to Tools>Internet options> Advanced settings
and make sure FTP is enabled. then make sure your adddress is formated as below ftp://Username@ftp.domain.com/ |

If you have a router or firewall, you should also check the 'Use Passive FTP' in Internet Explorer advanced internet options.. (tools-internet options-advanced) it is about half way down the list.
Passive FTP means you initiate all connections instead of the FTP server making a data connection back to you for transfers. If you are behind a firewall or a router (depending on it's settings) it can keep that connection from being passed through. |
