Temp Internet Files Fun

Ok, so I am trying to figure out why the hell my temporary intenet files never seems to get cleared no matter what I try to do. Just so you know, I am running Win XP Pro and for some reason it appears that my computer has created two separate Temporary internet files and only clears one of them. Additionally, it appears that the cookies never clear either. I am finding this to be very annoying.

Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening or how to fix it?

I discovered this while my Norton Antivirus was running...I had cleared everything out before running it and all the sudden it was going through a whole bunch of files labeled temporary internet files. I did a search and sure enough two came up, one full vs one empty.

Do you have more than one userid on your system? If on a network, do you have a domain account and a local account that you use?

Each user on a pc gets their own profile including their own temp internet files and cookies as well as book marks.

If you want to see what profiles are on your machine, Right click on 'My Computer', choose the Advanced tab, click settings on the 'User Profiles' area. It will display each username, how big the profile is, etc... You'll have the option to delete the other profiles but you can't delete the profile of the user that is currently logged on.

You can manually see the profiles by going into My Computer and looking under c:\documents and settings\Username where username is the name of the userid. That folder is a profile. The location of cookies and internet cache is C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.Do NOT delete the "Default User" or "All Users", "Local Service" or "Network Service" folders as those are used when new accounts are created as well as to store common application icons for the desktop except in the case of the service accounts which are just that.

Actually neither of those things apply to this system. There is only one user account on it and there is no domain account with a sub account.

Maybe give this a try:

In IE, go to Tools.. Internet Options.. Advanced. Scroll down to the Security section and choose 'Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed'.
