@home: need to connect more than one comp.
I have Cox cable internet and need to connect 4 computers to the network. I don't want to pay extra per month for extra IP's. We have a 5 port switch (Netgear FS605) that has worked in the past for such an operation, but we can't seem to get the settings and such right in order to get all of us going. Do any of you know how to set this up so that it'll work?

you can still use your switch:
have the modem go into one computer then connect that computer to the switch, make sure you tell that computer to share the connection and that it is on all the time. That way you can save some $$ and all will still work fine. Corey |

This will work fine, although you need 2 network cards (1 for the cable in, 1 for the PC ==> switch). |

I avoid using a USB connection as a NIC at all costs. I've seen many cases where they intermittently stop working and you have you reboot or disconnect/reconnect then etc... I've also notice throughput is often not a good on with a USB cable connection. They'll work, but just not as reliably in my experience.
