I just got a home wireless network. I'm using Netgear 802.11b. Everything works fine without WEP enabled. But when I enable it through the Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Wireless Network Connection -> Properties, I can't use the internet anymore.
Can anyone help me with configuring network to be WEP enabled? Thanks in advance! |

Did you also enable it in you router or ap? From what you just said, it sounds like you are just enabling wep on your access card, but if you did not enable it in you router/ap its obviously not going to work.

How do I enable WEP in the router? And how do I put in the security encryption key?
You're right..I think I am only enabling it on my access card.. I'm using Windows XP Home. To set this up, I just plugged everything in and it worked. I just tried running the Network Config Wizard but it just killed my connection, so I undid the changes. I can't figure out how to configure the router. |

you can usually get to the router configuration by typing its IP address into internet explorer, if you don't know its IP address, find out what your computers ineternal IP address is and change the last number to a 1... i.e my internal IP address is 192.168.0.3 so my router's would be 192.168.0.1 ...this should bring you to the router configuration screen from where you can enable WEP on the router.

I'm guessing since you've never been there before you haven't changed your password yet so it's usually: user: admin pw: admin Then go to Wireless Settings and enable WEP, type in the code word and write down the security key. Then put in the security key in your machine. |

hmm...i went back to my manual and saw a page that i didn't see before...strange...
ok..i went to 192.169.0.1 and enabled WEP and put in a passphrase and generated the keys... then..i went to my computer's network settings and enabled WEP and typed in the same passphrase now...i can't get onto the internet, so i tried going back to 192.168.0.1 but it says "cannont find server" so i can't use my wireless router anymore funny thing is on the windows network config...i type in my passphrase..which is 5 digits and i press ok. when i go back, the passphrase has changed to 8 digits. what's going on? |
