Computer shuts down RPC problem- HELP

Computer keeps shutting down RPC problem, HELP

Here is my problem I am running XP Pro on my Dell 600SC and it runs great until today, I connect through my dial up connection and within minutes of connection I get a SYSTEM SHUTDOWN SCREEN ABOUT A Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly. Than the computer shuts down and reboots and this happens every time I connect online. I don't have a network, or a router connected or any remote connection. So far the steps I took to solve it was to go to MSCONFIG and I restored the registry to a date five days ago, well before the problem started but it had no effect. Right now as things stand, I can’t go on the internet more than a minute or so before my system shutsdown. I am confident I don’t have a virus.

Here is the exact wording on the screen that is entitled SUSTEM SHUTDOWN
SYSTEM SHUTDOWN
This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Time before shutdown: note from me, it countsdown how much time is left before shutdown
Message:
Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly
I hope someone can help solve this problem.

Could it be something along the lines of what is discussed in this thread (Help! I have the NT Remote Explorer virus!)?

Glad you got it fixed. Sounds like this worm is wreaking havoc. I had several timeouts on the Microsoft Updates site this evening as I checked my systems.

Why don't you just downloads the updates once and burn them to a cd or put it into a shared network folder to update all the computers? If you don't know how then go to this site.

Nice one. I didn't know I could download the updates like that. Way cool. Time to fill up the fileserver here at work.

I only have one computer I have to update.

(I was also checking the system at my in-laws.)
