Every so often when I run MS Outlook Express or Internet Explorer, my computer would freeze. I contacted tech support but they said they change my startup configuration in the system tools part but I can't find it. Someone Help!

To get to the MS configuration tools do the following:

Click on Start-Run and type msconfig then press enter.

If you are going to continue using Internet Explorer, get used to the crashes. Try Netscape or Opera. If Netscape do a "find file" and delete or rename advert.dll -- you should have a pretty stable browser.

If you grabbed IE 5.0 or later and did not update Outlook Express you will run into problems. I would just download the IE5.0 update program and make sure you select Outlook Express 5.0 . I know for fact that you will not be able to print if you have IE 5.0 and Outlook Express 4.0 If you have a slow modem plan on running it at night. It will take a while. :-)

hey starving student, maybe it's time for a clean install of your OS. I had that problem for a while, but after I got a new hardrive and did a clean install, I got rid of the problem.

First and foresmost-no one ever mentioned anything about this guys internet connection so lets not get all nutty about his modem. Secondly, do a start-run and type sfc in the command line. This will check the integrity of your system files. You may need your cab files handy so dig up your 98 cd. Thirdly, You can always download iesetup.exe 5.5 beta. Seems to be running smooth for me. BTW? Who cares if it has a 128 bit encryption code? PS- If you take advice from Uranus-you will surely end up in safe mode for life-skyjuice
