Has anyone had problems with this mouse? Namely, the power turning on and off from the mouse, lack of movement, the light flashing, non-responsiveness and the such?

ive had mine for about 6 months now - havent had any problems with it. the only time the light goes off (or rather, gets dimmer, and the mouse doesnt work) is when i pick it up off of the table. but when i put it back down again, it works. are you using it on glass, or other reflective surface?

Mine usually dims when you lift it off the table, but this thing completely shuts off sometimes...and I'm usually a black mouse pad...

Pilot fish gets a neat new Microsoft Explorer optical mouse. Plugs it into a laptop's USB port. Installs the software so he can use the side buttons and track wheeland adjust the pointer speed. Then up pops a message: "Windows 95, 98 or Windows NT 4.0 ... has not been detected on your system. Check the product box for system requirements." Apparently Windows 2000 Professional wasn't good enough. An hour and a half with Microsoft tech support finally solved the problem (typing d:\setup.exe win2000 did it). |

call buy.com and just be adamant that they replace it. They will trust me. Microsoft will want proof of purchase etc. red-tape etc. Call buy.com and demand one overnighted or you will exercise your customer option in choosing another dealer to buy your computer products in the imminent future. A little stern, professionalism goes a long way.

I used on of these things for a while. I thought I would like it, but it seemed to be less responsive than the mechanical mouse (I use a MS Intellimouse Pro). I really liked the extra buttons, but when I used it for gaming, it just didn't work like I expected it to. So I switched back to the Pro.

Are you still having problems with the mouse. Questions are: Are you using USB or PS2? Are you using Win 2000? If you bought it in Jan. have you had problems before any upgrades like a operating system? Have you flashed the Bios on the motherboard? Have you tryed something else in that USB port if using USB? Try some of those if you haven't already. I know a couple of people having problems with USB and win2000.

OK so the deal is that when I used it as a PS/2 it began to go nuts on me. The mouse started to lose its power connection and then it turned on and off. Eventually, I figured it was the USB to PS/2 converter that was loose. So I moved it to a USB it it was ok for a bit. Then it started to do the same thing. It FINALLY turned out to be a loose part in the mouse, that's why it was shorting out all the time.
Called microsoft, they're sending me a replacement mouse free of charge, no questions asked. I'm really impressed by their customer service. I thought they would tell me to shove that mouse up my ass. Anyway, sure puts Staples' CS to shame. |

actually they lie when they say you never have to clean the mouse. bought my optical not too long ago and it started to act weird. if i leave the mouse alone, the cursor would move by itself and sometimes the mouse would just die and my computer would freeze. turns out there was clumps of dirt building near the optical lens. after cleaning it, everything went back to normal. you might wanna check that out. also the problem could be your usb port or the usb drivers.

Got an intellimouse w/optical (non-explorer one) and works great. Only problem is if you move it too fast the stupid rodent gets confused (12in. in 1sec. on the mousepad = 1in. on the screen)Otherwise, it has great accuracy. I'm racking up frags on Counter-Strike alot faster now... hehehehe

i never notice that it can't track fast movement until you mentioned it. and yeah it's very precise but i just hate that it has no kind of grip. wen your hands get sweaty after intense play, its hard to hold the mouse stable.

I was trying to use my Intellimouse Explorer on USB with a Logitech Marble Trackball still installed on my PS/2 port. The Intellimouse would work sometimes, but others it would not power-up during boot. It appears that my system randomly chooses to load the Intellimouse during initialization. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Does anyone know if there is a problem with having 2 mice installed at the same time? When the Intellimouse Explorer was not working, the Trackball was actually using the MS Intellimouse software. Anyway, I removed the trackball from my system and all seems well now.

update on that... removing my trackball from the system still did not solve the problem. no power to the intellimouse explorer and windows tells me that no pointing device is detected!! did i get a bum unit, or is something possibly wrong with my system??

try to install another USB device to rule out a dead USB port.

it's not a dead usb port because the mouse works at time. maybe one out of 8 boots. weird.
