Help!!! Boot Device Problem

Here's the background. My floppy light was always on and was not being detected by my system. I was told to flip over the cable to the drive.

I've finally gotten around to flipping around the cable and now my computer won't start up. It is asking me to "reboot and select proper boot device". It has been so long since I had to do that I forgot how. I was just in the bios and looked at the IDE and it is not detecting the master or slave, the only things that are detected are my DVD rom and my Zip. Shouldn't it be dectecting my CDR, HD etc... Now what do I do???? Need help, my new computer is useless. I tried flipping the cable back over to the wrong side in hopes it would work just like it used to, but to no avail.

Re: Help!!! Boot Device Problem

First, I'd suggest you pull the plug on the Floppy and leave it off. Go into your BIOS and set your HD connector to AUTO and same for the CD ROM. Make sure that they are enabled.

Reboot.

If this doesn't work, disconnect the hard drive from the IDE cable and power supply, turn off the power, turn on the power without the drive connected, wait for error then turn the machine back off and reconnect the drive and power up.

Let us know if any of this works.

Thanks for the help, i'm just a giant turd brained idiot.

ME!!!

When I pulled out the cable, I pulled out the entire slot that it sits in because it's easier to get to, but in doing so the 6 inch HD cable came unplugged from the mobo. That was it. I thought I checked it the first time after it wouldn't boot, but I was wrong. Hence why the bios wouldn't recognize anything. Sometimes its the easy stuff that makes me feel stupid, but at least it was that and not anything too serious.
