Maxtor VS Western Digital VS Seagate
Maxtor VS Western Digital VS Seagate
Who is better performance wise? I do not care about price and anyways Maxtor is usually cheaper. I am up for more hard drive looking after my old Maxtor around 1 year old was giving me trouble (no warranty left). Seagate is known for its quieter drives with better bearings. Price between these three is about the same with all the rebates and such. But I need a hard drive that will last me at least 2 years no problem. I do not run my computer all day, and I am going to start a new backing up system involving 1 HD that is unplugged when not in use. Also I may buy a DVD burner. But back to the real debate, which HD manufacture have you had the best results with, and or had given you the least trouble.

Right now, I'd suggest WD as they have a 3 year warranty.
I haven't used Seagate since I bought my 1.2gb drive many moons ago so I can't comment much on them.

Yes indeed - for desktop drives, at least. IBM laptop drives have always been great tho - they are now selling a 7200RPM 80GB laptop drive, for crying out loud. |

I dunno - so far the only place I've seen it being sold is installed in a Thinkpad T40. I would imagine that it'd be about $5-600, tho.

All good
I agree that WD is a slight cut about the others, but really, we're talking about pretty slight margins. I've worked with quite a few Maxtors and WDs, and it's quite hard to notice a difference. Seagate I don't have as much experience with, but their reputation is they're quite decent too. As long as you keep stuff backed up, I say go for the cheapest you can find among those.
