Is it just my system, or does this card take up a lot of resources? I have a stick of Crucial PC 133 128MB, I should think that it would be enough in a Win 98 machine running just a browser and a few other web stuff, but the damned resources are at 14%!!!!

I'd appreciate any insight, from the most basic to the most complex, I'm game for them all.

What? This soundcard doesn't take up many resources. Do a control-alt-delete (aka 3 finger salute) and see what's running in the background! Turn off crap like realplayer and other programs that suck up system resources. For all three of my systems (2 with SBLive!) with a browser and other web programs running I don't get near 14%. Type msinfo32 in the run box. Go to tools menu then system configuration utility. Go to the startup tab and uncheck programs that load themselves up when you startup also.

I did do that, and yet, I get a very slow system. I hate those programs that decide that they're going to start with the computer no matter what. ICQ, AIM, Realplayer, Yahoo Messenger. I get rid of them in the startup.ini as soon as I install 'em.

actually one of the reasons sblive are so popular is because it takes up little to no resources compared to other cards. i don't think its your sblive thats taking up that 14%.

Run MSCONFIG from the start\run button and then go to startup tab and untick any non critical programs that automatically run at startup. You should have at least 80% resources available.

If things are real slow then go with a memory defrag program, like memturbo. It defrags memory whereas if you didn't programs that were closed still take some memory/ leaves memory fragmented.
