Question

I have set up the BIOS but after it passes the start screen it says "Boot disk error, please enter startup disk and press enter." I just put the system together though and I don't have any startup disks. What do I need to get past this or are they referring to a Windows, Linux or OS install disk. Thanks for the help.

Don't recall if windows 98 has a boot disk function, but best thing to do is try to get a boot disk from another computer, and boot from that. From there, you can just run setup from the cdrom on Win98. Make sure you format your hard drive ahead of time or else nothing is going to install. Then after having a boot disk (win98 boot disks have auto cdrom detection, if not, figure out how to make your own) just install win98 by running setup.

If you cant find a start disk, I think you might be able to boot directly from the windows cd rom. Just set the boot sequence in the bios so that cdrom is first. I havn't tried this but it should work. Like mastayoda said though, make sure the hd is formated or you wont be able to install.

Cool

If this is a new system, then there are probably no drivers installed in it yet, so the CDrom should not be working yet. The Win98 boot-disk is still need to provide the drivers so the CDrom is recognized, and then the Win98 setup process can proceed.

Actually the bios should be able to detect the cd rom and boot from it even with no drivers. I wasn't 100% sure so I just tried booting to my cd room with no HD's in my system (an therefor no drivers) and it worked for me. Either way, a startup disk would be much easier if you can get your hands on one.
