Strange Windows Picture problem...

I have a strange problem with Windows Picture... everytime I view a picture (pictures off my digital camera), windows picture pops up to load the pic, but its stuck on "generating picture." After that, my explorer.exe starts to act funny. I cant view My Computer or browse through my computer at all. Then my explorer.exe crashes and then it resets. What's more is when i shut my computer down, explorer.exe doesnt respond and it has to end it. Thats only when i browse through pictures.

I tried defragging, a virus scan, spyware scan, and nothing seemed to help it.

Any ideas? Thanks.

*Edit: Actually, my D:\ (partition) is just slow in general. Strange, it just happened like over night. A format will probably do the job.

I'm back to bump this thread because I noticed something strange with the harddrive. Here's a summary:

Last week I dumped some digital photo files from a cd to my harddrive. The harddrive that it was dumped onto (D:\, 100gb, and its a partition) started to act slow. I looked into the task manager and my explorer.exe was using 99 CPU and the mem usage kept going higher and higher and I closed it when it hit bout 60mb of mem usage. This happens not only when I view pictures, but when I access any files from D:\. My other partition, C:\, seems to be working fine. My whole computer seems to be working fine until i access D:\ through my explorer.

I scanned for viruses, and spyware. Nothing showed up. Any ideas?

Are there only pictures on that drive? I know that a corrupt avi file can cause that to happen when the directory it is in is accessed.
