I just deleted my volume control prog.

I'm on WinXP. I got sick of real player and unistalled it. Well something happened and now i have no sound at all! It seems i removed my volume control program. It says so in the Sounds control panel. I'm so pissed. Any suggestions? I can't find an individual sound component to install.

Man it's too easy to **** up WinXP. I finally convinced my computer to reinstall the audio drivers which wasn't being as straightforward as it should be. Now i realized i lost my product key for XP. I'm starting to miss my Mac.

Blame real player not xp. I personally hate how real player's volume controll sets the default volume on your comp, so if you are listening to two things(two baseball games ) and you turn the real player feed down, it mutes everything. ****ty real player.

Do you have an NVidia motherboard? Their new drivers include a full range of audio controls for their onboard sound. I don't know if that will help you or not. Find the drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

It sets the default volume? I didn't even know that. Sucky program. All i did was uninstall it and trash the Real folder in my Program files. That doesn't make sense though because when i uninstall something everything should be removed!
So can anyone recommend a superior substitute that won't lag on large files.

My sound is integrated onto the the board, so i use SoundMax. My current living situation doesn't require a nice card for my comuter.

Go to the start menu, then to accessories, then system tools, then system restore.

If you haven't touched the setup, it should have set a system restore point here and there. Go to the most recent one before you had troubles, choose that, and you should be able to be good. Theoretically.

Wow. 6.9gb (12%) is allocated for System Restore. According to the description it might even save deleted files. I'm surprised how it instantaneously creates a restore point. Wonder if System Restore slows down my computer's overall performance.

Restore is generally NOT a good thing from what I've seen. Great place for virus files to become embedded, a restore often does as much damage as it corrects, and it sits there and eats memory and storage space.

Need your XP key? http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

thanks for the keyfinder. nice simple prog. I think i'm going to turn it off System Restore and just use norton ghost. I'd rather have fewer items working in the background.
