Can't copy cd's

Not a computer savy person so please excuse question. I can't copy or transfer anything to CD. I've tried using XP and it keeps telling me to put in a writeable CD which I have. Tried many different ones with same results. Keep saying files are waiting to be copied. When I try to drag and drop nothing happens but it thinks its copying. System doesn't want to let me shut down or copy a different way because "needed resources in use" or can't shut down because it's transfering files although its hours later and nothings happened.

I don't copy to cd much and it just started happening resently. When I tried using Nero it either tells me resources in use or in says it copied but nothing is on the cd. I have dvd x copy gold with an I/O Magic DVD burner. I tried Nero, dvd x copy and any cd software I could find reinstalling one at time with no success. No problems burning DVD movies though. Any advise would be appreciated. thanks

That's just weird.... you can copy to DVD but not the CD....

Could something be wrong with your burner maybe?

maybe you should go to circuit city and get an external burner and test that out. Make sure it's not the software *highly doubtful*. CC has a good return policy anyways

Thanks for the reply guys. I guess the general opinion is probably something wrong with the dvd burner. It should still be under warranty but I have to find the receipt. Bought from Staples about 6 months ago. Maybe when a good deal pops up I'll pick up another one and if its not the problem I can always use it on another computer. Thanks
