computer usage at 100%

I am getting my computing usage at 100% and i don't why. I don't run a lot of programs and all my programs are running at normal settings. It is slowing down my computer like crazy and I can barely do anything with it.

Does anyone know whats wrong?

Run Spybot and Adaware on your system. You can download both from Download.com. Sounds like you're having a spyware issue.

you can monitor those services working in the background...what processes in task mgr are running at or near 100%?
another is updating your virus definitions for your anti-virus, if you havent already done so yet.

also, try to run your spyware detection and antivirus programs in safe mode. i find that they catch and delete/quarantine more stuff that way. plus whatever you cant delete in normal mode, you can easily delete in safe mode.

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del).

Go to the Processes tab. Click on the "CPU" section twice so it organizes the Working Processes in order of which is using the most CPU Power.

Let us know what it is.

Don't know if this is the problem if your case, but my cousin got something on his computer that would suck up all of the resources and cause the computer to run extremely slowly. The process would always be named something very similar to a process that should have been running. Like it would call itself System Idle_Process or like spooolSV.exe. Turned out it's only apparent function was to use up all of the system resources...

I recently fixed someone's computer who had the same issue. And I am glad that you were able to fix it, but this person had a *.exe file in the Windows directory that was running on system boot.

I forgot the name of it, but it the CPU Usage was at like 99%. It was a simple fix, just deleted the file, removed it from registry and took it out of startup and it was gone.

Wasn't a virus or anything, but it was just odd I guess.

No idea how it got there either as I had just formatted the system two days previous. Probably something related to something she downloaded or installed, but still. Dunno.

Everything still worked fine after I removed the file as well.
