Windows XP not seeing all 200gb of new drive

Help! I have a Dell PowerEdge 400SC (that I bought through a deal on here months ago). I had a 160gb drive that quickly started going bad a few weeks ago, so I just got a 200gb WesternDigital drive (again, through a deal here from TigerDirect ). Problem is, WinXP is only reading about 130gb of it! I know WinXP has some problems reading some bigger drives. What can I do??

Thanks in advance!

Jenny

Are you running XP SP1? I remember somewhere in the back of my head that SP1 fixes such problems...

Did you go into your "Drive Management" area to see if the drive is recognized there?

If not, then I'd start there as far as making sure that the rest of the drive is recognized... Also, if that doesn't work, then if you have a copy of PartitionMagic 7.0 or higher, then you'd be able to access that area that way as well.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend running the O/S on the full 200GB drive... I'd partition about 30 - 40 GBs of it for the O/S and then leave the rest for storage under a different drive letter. This will help big time when it comes to saving your data if by chance your O/S gets corrupted in the future.

Ok cool. Partition Magic saw the unpartitioned space so then I just made it into a partition and then merged them.

so it's seeing 186gb, which works for me.

Thx
