Laptop display problem
So I have my brother's friend's laptop. They wanted me to retrieve their data from their drive since they can't get it to do anything. I've already retrieved the data. I am now trying to fix the laptop. However I can't find the problem. Here's what's going wrong: Turn on the computer, nothing shows up on the lcd screen, or monitor when plugged in to the vga port.
It's a sony viao PCG-FXA53. I can't find any documentation for this laptop aside from simple troubleshooting things such as, "your computer might have it's scren saver on" blah. anyone got any ideas of what to check? |

Check the physical connection from the motherboard of the laptop to the monitor. Generally it's a ribbon cable attached towards the fanside of the laptop. It may be a little bit difficult to get to, but if it's completely blanking out then it might be the faulty connection. If that's not the case, then it's probably the video card, which is effectively unfixable by an unequipped person.
I don't know if the machine's worth salvaging, but motherboards for something like that might be on eBay or something for someone who wants to scrap the computer.

question. If a processor has gone bad, could that also cause the computer to never post?
