flakey wireless

i have a 802.11b microsoft wireless router (yeah, i know it's M$, but i got it for free) hooked up in my cousin's room. i'm right next to his room on my laptop. at night, the connection is a bit flakey and i have to get closer to the wall to get solid connection (signal strength and all is fine, but i just can't hold a solid internet connection). he usually has his tv (regular little 20" tv) on at night that's right in the path. would that be the problem? thanks!

I'm thinking the rebar in the concrete walls in Korean apts are the problem.

You specified that "at night" it's flaky. Does it do this during the day?

I also find this line curious:

If the signal strength is "fine" there shouldn't be a problem with the internet connection, unless there's something wrong with the internet connection.

Assuming the internet connection is okay, I would say you might be dealing with interference from some other electronic source. If you're in a multiple-unit dwelling, you could be seeing interference from a neighbor's router, cordless phone, microwave, etc.

And yes, your cousin's TV could be causing the problem too, but that would be easy to eliminate as a source of trouble: have you tried moving your PC around your room, away from where the TV is? Have you asked your cousin to turn off (or better yet unplug) the TV so you can troubleshoot?
