IDE Controller Missing
I just built a computer using an older AOpen motherboard. Instead of starting from scratch, I installed a hard drive with Windows 98 from another computer which also has a bunch of other programs.
I figured that I would have a lot of conflicts but the only problem I am having is that there is a question mark in Device Manager for the IDE controller. The BIOS recognizes IDE1 with the hard drive and IDE2 with the CDRW, but Windows does not recognize the CDRW. AOpen's web downloads shows nothing for IDE controller drivers. Is there a generic IDE controller I can use? If so, where do I find it?

Do you have the mobo drivers that work with Windows 98?
I'd start there.... check the AOpen site for the mobo drivers if there are any. Or you could try upgrading to WinXP... as most of the older hardware drivers are already included with that O/S.

I found an IDE controller for the AOpen motherboard, but it's for Windows 95. I wonder if that will work?
I downloaded it to a floppy, but I don't have a floppy drive for the new computer. I am supposed to get one tomorrow. I forget if I have Windows 98 or 98SE. The Windows 98 disc doesn't show the proper controller driver. Maybe I'll try the 98SE disc tomorrow. |
