Automatic Private Address?
I've been getting it on my labtop these few days. Can anyone help me? I'm using a Netgear router.

That could be any number of different things... here are some tips to try:
1) get rid of the labtop, and get a laPtop ![]() 2) Check the cable - do you get a link light on your laptop? 3) Oops - is it a wired or wireless connection? If wireless, do you see a connection being made in Windows? 4) Can other machines connect & get an address? 5) Reboot the router 6) If possible, try connecting your laptop to a different network & see if it can get an address |

Open a command prompt & type 'ipconfig /all' & paste the results here. Then do 'ipconfig /renew' - what message do you get back?

when i type ipconfig /renew it says I'm not connected to a network.
My wireless connection can view the Connection but it just gives me the Private Address again. My wireless computer can't go online and its beginning to get on my n erves. |

Sounds like WEP or WPA is turned on and the keys don't match. Had the same thing happen at my parents over the weekend.

Is it the only computer connected to the router? Is it the only computer having problems?

do this. go to TCP/IP settings of your internet connection, and properties. Uncheck auto assign IP / DNS, type in anything you want, press ok. Restart your computer, and go back to the TCP/IP properties, now check auto assign IP / DNS, and apply. It should work from there.
