Is there any way to completely delete all the standard games within XP?

Okay, so my mom's been in the hospital for the past few weeks and I need to check my email from time to time since I'm with her for the better part of the day...

There's this guy who also has a family member in the hospital who uses the only two available computers and plays Solitaire on it for at least 3 hours each time.

I went in, searched for all "solitaire" files and deleted them. Don't get me wrong...I'm not cruel like that, but I truly believe that computers can be put to better use other than wasted time playing Solitaire for hours on end. Literally, it's non-stop.

For some reason, it got loaded back on the computer because I saw him playing it tonight. I know these computers can't download anything since there's firewalls, so:

1. How did it get back on there?
2. How do I permanently get rid of all those games?

Thanks for the help!

Try this:

Go to "Properties" by right-clicking your local hard drive.
Click "Disk Cleanup" under the "General" tab.
Go to the "More Options" tab.
Click "Clean Up" under Windows Components.
Games should be under "Accessories and Utilities"

Uncheck the stuff you want off

You can also do this in XP.

Go to ad remove programs
then click on Add/Remove Windows Components
Then click details with Accessories and Utilities selected
Uncheck the Games option, then hit ok
Then hit Next.

It will completely unistall the windows included games from the machine. And you can't add them back in from there unless you have the xp cd.

That should do the trick, you can also uninstall other windows crap you don't want by doing this.

If these are general use machines, I'd say that (if the hospital has a smart IT staff), they're likely running a program that resets the machine to a standard build every night.

Deep Freeze and MagicCard are a couple of products that do this. You build the machine, 'freeze' the image, and then let people at it. No matter what you do to the machine or the OS (you can even format the drives), once you reboot or trigger the reset, it'll go right back to the same config as it was in when it was frozen.

If this is the case, you're likely SOL on this issue unless you can get a special favor from the IT folks there.

hold down "Atl" + "ctr" + "F6" keys and if the computer displays a box for a password then the pc has Deep Freeze on it

the password is "hospital"

lol jk, but you could probably con one of the IT guys into giving it to you if you dial their extention and talk lingo and know that they are using deep freeze.

If you're running win xp PRO, all you need to do is set a group policy

run, type gpedit.msc

Computer config/windows settings/security settings/soft restriction

at this point you'll have to create new policy, go to action and choose the first item.

go to addition rules, add all those suckers in and make them RESTRICTED. If someone plays solitaire on computer 24/7 I assume they'll have no way of knowing these steps unless of course, you leave this on the screen.

Or, make solitaire hidden. lol it'll take some time for him to figure it out.

I would try a psycological approach. Every time he plays solitare punch him in the nuts. Eventually he will have a negative association to playing solitare and not want to anymore.
