Second HD Doesn't Show up

I have a SCSI hard drive which I boot from under Windows XP Pro (NTFS). I had a second hard drive (Secondary Master) which became full so I decided to remove it and temporarily replace it with a smaller HD.

The HD shows up at the first screen right after it boots up. It also shows up in Device Manager, but it doesn't show up under "My Computer". Drive D was the drive on the other HD. Drive D is still available.

I assume the jumper is correct.

I am not sure if the HD is OK or not, but wouldn't it still show up? And it may have been formatted with FAT32.

Should I have deleted the original HD before I installed this one?

Is this going to be a temporary drive for you or something more permanent?

You need to format the new drive.

Remember back in the day when you had to format your own floppies? same thing.

I assume it's a blank drive you want to fill? Just right click the drive in disk management, create a partition if one doesn't exist, and format it as NTFS.

If, however, the drive has data on it that you want to keep - you may have to import the disk into XP if it was created on an other XP machine as a dynamc disk.

The drive doesn't show up in My Computer. Where else would I right click it? Device Manager?

Like Jeffbx said, you'll have to go through the Disk Management utility; right-click My Computer and select Manage and then you want to use the Disk Management -> Storage section.

When I've swapped drives in and out, sometimes I have to go into the Disk Management, right click on the partition of the drive, and select "Mark Partition as Active".
