Anyone else having issues trying to install WinXP Pro on this thing? I've downloaded the SATA drivers, hit F6, specified them, but when I get to the point that it asks me to hit Enter to Continue or F3 to exit, my keyboard freezes every single time.
The first time I tried this it got past the point described above, almost all the way through the entire installation, but hung for over an hour towards the installation. Keyboard and Mouse are both USB. OS is WinXP Pro w/SP1. Starting installation by booting off CD. Ideas? Last edited by Gixxed_Spyder : 12-05-2005 at 09:59 PM. |

There are no PS2 Ports. I have a 9100 and haven't encountered the freezing myself, but many people on the dell support boards have encountered it. Check there.
I have done several installations on a couple 9100's. I have installed an XP pro copy without the sata drivers in combo mode (in bios). This works well if you don't have a floppy. You only need to use the intel drivers, if you have a raid setup, or if you have an NCQ harddrive and want the fraction of a performance gain. After doing the install this way, you can manually install the intel drivers, then update the motherboard drivers, reboot, and change the combo mode back to the acpi mode in the bios. I finally got around to making an XP slipstream with all the new drivers, which works very well, and is probably the best way to do it. But this method can be quite tricky. |
