I just lost 90Gigs of Storage! Where did it go?

Okay, so I'm dawdling around on the PC tonight and I check my C: to see if I've still got over 100Gigs left on my 160 Gig Hard Drive.

Lo and behold, I've only got 10.8 Gigs left! I have never had that much data on my hard drive.

Any other suggestions is more than welcomed. Thanks!

Temp files?
XP Restore data?
Those are two common culprits; I turn off System Restore myself (since I use Ghost).

Got|mp3? j/k

Run scandisk and check "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". Could be bad sectors that are giving you incorrect disk usage data.

Yep. You can go to Disk Cleanup -> More Options -> Clean Up @ System Restore. While you're at it, download CCleaner.

If you haven't yet, try a reboot as well. Never know it could be your swap file...

download treesize pro and run that. That's the best way to find out how your hard drive is allocated.

Thanks everyone. I'll be trying everything out...

I have Norton Partition Magic 8.0 that I ran, but it only shows how much space I've "used" and how much I have left.

I hope the disk clean up will work. Should I defrag as well while I'm at it? I see a lot of red lines when it's analyzed...

are you using norton of any kind on your computer. Mostly norton system works on your computer. if you havn't done it yet. go to your recycle bin/ right click/ select remove norton protected files/ then click all. you should get all of your memory back!
