I have shuttle FV24V20. I had reformated the drive and trying to install xp professional. I am getting error messages like "unable to install xp. the file acgenral.dll was not copied correctly"
If anyone know the solution or suggestion would be appreciate.

Thanks in advance

is your windows xp disk scratched?

Something like that happened to mine where it wouldn't copy files to a fresh hard drive install.

I totally agree with DF. The only time(s) that I have had problems like this, was when the disk was scratched or otherwise damaged and the drive could not read it.

If the disk is scratched, try one of those Disk Doctor things or I would guess that Mirror Glaze or wax might help smooth out the scratches. Just a thought, I have not tried either of these.

I hear that applying toothpaste (of all things) and buffing/polishing a cd with it will also help scratched cd's work again (if that's the underlying problem).

I would think that toothpaste would make a CD unreadable by creating thousands of little scratches that would prevent the CD from being read at all, as well as putting an opaque contaminant in the surface of the CD.

I would go with the Disk Dr. or with car wax.

I have read that a white toothpaste can actually make a good polish for removing scratches on CDs. I've never used it, but the first Google match seems to agree with this (as well as give some other suggestions). If you use a Disk Doctor (I have one and have often used it) it actually creates a myriad of "scratches" (going perpendicular to the rotation of the CD), albeit they are rather fine and can usually be buffed out.
